With New York fashion week done and dusted we’re straight into London Fashion Week. One of the first collections to be shown this week was PPQ, this youthful brand is known for it’s bright colours and modern cocktail dresses. Design duo Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker impressed yet again with their colour-popping cocktail dresses and vibrant prints. The accessories really shone through with their signature tote bags making an appearance and quirky fez hats.

As New York fashion week draws to a close we’ll say goodbye to the last of our New York fashion week specials with the bright and extremely ‘wearable’ Milly. The American brand, designed by the glamorous Michelle Smith has been going strong for ten years and yesterdays spring collection certainly didn’t disappoint. Models glided down the runway in colorful bold prints, statement jewellery and kitten heels. The nipped-in waists added a 1950′s feel to the show but the bright color combinations gave it all a modern twist. If you’re looking for cute and quirky but still want to look and feel fashionable then Milly is the most definitely the brand for you.

While searching through the latest from New York fashion week I stumbled across Monique Lhuillier, a designer I’d never heard of but I am so glad I took a minute to look through her latest collection. The long flowing gowns in vivid colours and pretty floral prints were absolutely stunning. I really found it hard to only pick three of my favourite pieces. Which is your favourite dress?

Not only is the classic Mulberry Bayswater super-chic it’s also the perfect way to rock this season’s leopard print.

Philosophy designed by Alberta Ferretti brought a splash of color to what is turning out to be a very ”white-themed” NY fashion week. This collection is a mixture of Eastern fashion meets crazy and colorful prints. Super-short dresses and tunics in vibrant colors complimented printed platfoms, even the carpet got in on the action. Overall I really liked this collection, it’s a nice change from the minimalistic white, black and beige looks that are taking over the Spring 2011 catwalks, more about that later..

First Face: Joan Smalls
Beautiful tailoring and floaty floral dresses made for a very wearable collection at Jason Wu’s Spring 2011 show yesterday. The Taiwanese designer shot to fame when Michelle Obama wore one of his designs for her husband’s inauguration ball in 2009.

5. Military
As seen at Dries Van Note (below)
The best way to update your Fall wardrobe with the military trend is usually through the classic khaki jacket, but this season Dries Van Noten showed us some alternative ways to work this look through the use of skirts, coats and the classic mac. Wear it with black. Prints or textures will only take away from the simplicity of this look.
4. Fake Fur
As seen at Chanel (below)

Karl Lagerfeld shocked the fashion world with the unusual theme for his most recent F/W show where models displayed his furry creations while walking around giant icebergs flown in specially from Scandinavia . Though this look may seem a bit extreme for your wardrobe – imagine walking into your workplace in any one of the outfits above, but this look can be achieved using jackets with fur trimmings. Fake fur is a neccesity, wearing dead animals is never fashionable no matter who wears it, thankfully Chanel used only fake fur.
3. Minimalism
As seen at Celine (below)

This look is all about clean, simple lines and minimum details. Black, white and beige are the best colors to achieve this look. If you’re feeling color-deprived try adding a color-popping bag in bright blue or red to achieve a high-fashion look.
2. Shearling Jackets
As seen at Burberry ( below)

This is definitely the ‘it’ item of the season and a true fashionista will make sure this definitely on the top of her Fall fashion wishlist. Not only is it super-stylish, it is also guaranteed to keep you warm through those cold winter evenings. Pair it with skinny jeans and ankle boots or take inspiration from the Burberry catwalk with mid-length skirts and thigh-high boots
1. 1950′s Dresses
As seen at Louis Vuitton ( below)

My personal favourite trend for this season, it’s all about nipped in waists and ankle-length skirts paired with ladylike accessories. Pair your dress with gloves to complete your look and you’re ready to go!
